"A Lie a Day Keeps the Issues Away" John McCain

I'm sure you have noticed the pattern that all the political pundit's have noticed—the McCain campaign comes out nearly every day with some lie or half truth that Obama has to counter, using media time that is needed to get the issues before the American public. The corporate media treats each new lie as "news" and keeps it going all day until the Republicans feed it the next one tomorrow. And so it goes, constant diversion from the serious problems that the Bush administration has created over the past eight years.

What to do? Democrats are scratching their heads and wondering. Obama faces a unique challenge—the perception in the public that an "angry black man" is dangerous. So he really can't do more than he is doing. However, what we can do is call a lie a lie and a liar a liar. JOHN MCCAIN IS A LIAR pass it on!

  2. Yes, Annie, I've heard of those. As for the Obama campaign vs the McCain campaign, objective fact checking has revealed that the vast majority of distortion has come from the McCain campaign.

I know of a few distortions from the Obama campaign, such as the repeated statement that McCain will keep us in the war for 100 years. I know that McCain was referring to troops remaining there for 100 years, not a 100-year war.

You can go to online sources such as factcheck.org to check out each statement by the campaigns. It is important that we deal with the truth of everything we hear. Yesterday, as I was registering voters here in Santa Fe, I heard the rumor that Obama was actually born in Kenya and is not really an American. This is the sort of vicious rumor that is out there. On the other side, the rumor that Palin (sorry, I said I would never repeat that name again) tried to ban books at her local library is distorted. She did inquire about the banning of books, but the list that is circulating on the internet is false.

  3. To anyone reading this blog, I would urge you to bookmark factcheck.org and go there regularly as we approach the election. I will try to write blog posts about the issues I hear about, but it is vital that we all remain as informed as possible.

  4. And, by the way, Annie. Was "black, white" a racist comment?? See how easy it is to distort innocent statements.

  5. And, while I am dispelling vicious rumors on the left and right, there is a rumor online that the Governor of Alaska is a member of an organization that advocates Alaska's succession from the USA. While it IS true that her husband is a long-time member of this organization, and it IS true that she has attended a number of their events, it is NOT true that she has ever been a member of the organization. The Obama campaign has not been a part of spreading this vicious rumor.

Again, I recommend going to factcheck.org to check out the factuality of things you hear and read.
